During WWII, Madeleine became very involved in looking after French orphans at her chateau outside Paris.

She formed a Knitting Group in California whilst she was filming Northwest Mounted Police. I have just received some pics of her with some of the teenagers who volunteered to knit in their spare time. Madeleine would then travel to Paris with trunk loads of knitwear to distribute to the orphans at her chateau.
